Math 110: Linear Algebra

- Eigenvalues, eigenvectors and diagonalization: 5.1, 5.2, 5.4,

- Special classes of operators, spectral theorem: 6.4--6.6,
- Jordan canonical form: 7.1, 7.2.
If time permits, we may also discuss applications of linear algebra to other
areas of mathematics and natural sciences following students' interests.
- Exams: We will have three in-class exams:
midterm I on July 12, midterm II on July 31, and the final
exam on August 16.
- Homework: Problems will be assigned every lecture to be collected
on the following Monday. Late homeworks will not be accepted. Your lowest
grade will be dropped.
- Grades: Homework: 20%, Midterm I: 20%,
Midterm II: 20%, Final: 40%.
There will be no make-up exams. If you miss one of the midterms due to illness
or emergency, you should provide a doctor's certificate, and your other midterm
grade will replace the one you missed. Students who miss both midterms, or the
final, will automatically fail the course.
