Homework 3, C&D
Due Wednesday July 27
Well, you have a week (6 days actually) for this long pset. I suggest you
do it a little bit each day. I'll be in my office whenever you need any help and
you should use that.
Exercise 1
In section 5.6 of E&P: 2,4,8,12,20
Exercise 2
In section 5.6 of E&P: 38, 42, 44
Exercise 3
In section 5.6 of E&P: 33, 36 and find the area of the
region bounded by the curves y=x^2 and y=x^{1/2} (square root of x).
Exercise 4
Try all the problems in section 5.7 but turn
in 4,8,10, 46, 48.
Exercise 5
Find the integral of f(x)= sin^2(x) between 0 and 2 pi. Note
that you can do this without using the fundamental theorem of calculus, as a
hint, compare this integral with the integral of g(x)=cos^2(x) between 0 and 2pi,
then use the fact that f(x)+g(x)=1
Exercise 6
Solve problems 65 and 66 of E&P section 5.7. Read the
explanation before exercises 67 and 68.
Exercise 7
In section 5.8 of E&P solve exercises 2 and 6.
Exercise 8
In section 5.8 of E&P solve exercises 53 and 54 (note that
we have already seen these curves in class a while ago).
